Day 9

 Day 9: Juneau, AK

Very few words to describe the day. We took a helicopter to a glacier and hiked on it for an hour. No pictures or video will do it justice, but here’s the attempt:






















We also walked around downtown Juneau until it poured. 




Miles and I played Bingo, and a LOT of time was spent in the observation lounge looking at glaciers and the overall scenery. Beautiful. 








Then Grandma and I had a fancy Italian dinner, just the two of us.



Today’s lessons:

1. Take the shuttle, the boat is further away than you think.

2. Bingo was overpriced- $50 for 6 boards and 3 games…

3. Maybe try looking at the weather in advance and invest in a raincoat?

Day 5

 Day 5: Mount Rainier. Sort of. So we continued our trek to Mount Rainier - some sights on the way: Part of our pre-cruise is needing a negative covid test. Fun scheduling on the road. Walgreens in Yakima was able to get us the (hopefully) correct test. Naturally they said their email was glitching, so we might have to travel back for a hard copy. 2.5 hrs away. Naturally.  Fun fact: my navigation decided to take us up the employee access road (which was all potholes) and we hit a dead end, with no cell service and no map. But, we rolled with it and were able to figure out how to get into the park and headed to Paradise Inn. There was something very peaceful about it (yet also very Shining-like): fire burning in the fireplace, people working on a puzzle, very causal, very calm, I would love to come back with Dan sometime! Day 14, Day 15 and HOME!

  Day 14: Yellowstone NP After a LONG drive yesterday, we were able to sleep in a little before heading to Yellowstone. We entered in the West, North entrances are still closed. What a beautiful drive in! Our first stop was random, and there were a few herds of bison, just hanging out. Lots of babies. Then we headed to the hot springs/geysers. The terrain looks like a different planet. And Grandpa got to see Old Faithful! So did the kids - the last time we were here we had definitely missed it and I told them it was a different one going off haha (mother of the year). After setting up camp, we went to Hayden Valley, because it is the trip of Hayden, apparently. We headed back for a smorgasbord of a dinner and a warm fire.  Today's Lessons: 1. Grandpa is a coffee thief. Two "free" cups later... 2. The REAL story of the animal in our tent: turns out we just exceeded the weight limit on the air mattress by having Charlie and I both on it and it popped up the seam, forcefully...
