Day 10, Day 11, Day 12, and Day 13
Hi! We are alive and STILL traveling. Lots of days with no service and pictures refusing to upload…
Day 10: Icy Straight Point, AK
Hayden, Charlie, and I had an early morning to go on the world’s longest zipline- got a little nervous when we went up the gondola, but wow was it worth it.
Today’s Lessons:
1. Go wander. Even if it’s solo.
2. Ziplines are a breeze when you can’t see the bottom through the fog. And then you break through the fog and BAM you can see everything. Super cool.
3: Starfish are equally amazing and creepy.
Day 11: Ketchikan, AK
EARLY morning out with everyone for the wilderness adventure and crabfeast. We learned a LOT about the Dungeness crab (that we later devoured), and saw an Eagle come in for a fish.
Found some jellies:
Back on the boat: I signed up for a painting class (I will not be posting that disaster-piece), and then Grandma and I went up to the spa to look at options. 3 hours later we met the kids for dinner, fully relaxed and starving- that spa lady could SELL some services!
Today’s Lessons:
1. Crabs can send messages through their pee. Hayden said he could as well, but I said writing in the snow doesn’t count.
2. Did I have wine and all you can eat crab for breakfast today? Yes, yes I did. Grandma just had 🍷. Ok, she also had some chicken.
3, Got suckered into the deposit for onboard credit and have no regrets.
4. 7 days for a cruise is just enough.
5. You have to ask, but there are white chocolate macadamia nut cookies on board. Hiding. Behind all the cheesecakes.
Day 12: At Sea and Victoria, Canada
Lots of time spent looking for whales. This time was not wasted. Do I have cool pics of this? No. Do I have any of the porpoise? Also no. They are faster than I am. Did I end up back in the spa today? Most definitely. Might as well enjoy the last few hours with Charlie getting our nails done.
Then we landed in Victoria, Canada. And waited. And waited. Took nearly an hour to get the boat cleared for release, and that reduced our time to about 3 hours at the port. We had no excursion planned so walked the 35 minutes to downtown to go eat MORE food. But Canadian food, thankfully, has no calories. That was about all we had time for, plus a stop at the legislative building AKA capital building.
Beautiful city. Bigger than I thought it would be.
Today's Lessons:
1. You can, in fact, break a toilet on a cruise. Not that I'm naming names. Hayden. #cruisefood
Day 13: Seattle - Back on the Road
The ship landed early, and we said goodbye to Grandma and got ready to leave.
The exit was faster than I thought! Grandpa and Nick picked us up after they enjoyed a week in Seattle.
Back on the road and headed to Yellowstone:
Today's Lessons:
1. When telling Grandpa what time to pick you up, tell him a time 30 minutes before you want him there, haha.
2. Walked off the boat in less than 10 minutes including immigration. Easy.
3. Nick. No. More. McDonald's.
4. I believe we have now driven the entirety of Interstate 90. We will be adding that to the list along with Route 66, Interstate 10, Pacific 101, Interstate 15, Interstate 65, and Interstates 95 and 75, minus the bottom of Florida parts of those 2.
