Day 3: Glacier National Park
After a super lazy morning in the hotel, we finally were ready to head out to Glacier to set up for the day. On the plus side, everyone showered so we were a little less stinky in the car.
When we went to set up for camping, found out that we had 2 single and 1 queen. There are 6 of us.
Charlie found a baby mouse and immediately became friends with it. If we all get the plague, you know who to blame.
(Not dead here, but definitely didn't make it through the night)Hayden bought a hiking map, so we selected a quick 3.3 mile hike called Howe's Lake, which we decided to do after a quick, late lunch.
This is where the trail ended, so we never did see Howe's Lake.
We went back to the campsite after some shopping near Lake McDonald:
And Grandpa brought sling shots.
The wood we bought wasn't great, so it made for a colder evening by a tiny fire. Charlie called it early and went to bed because the temperature really started to drop, and the air was pretty wet.
I snuggled in with Charlie on our SINGLE air mattress, and after about an hour we both woke up to a loud noise and something coming up from under the air mattress, punching Charlie in the butt. I found my flashlight, and nothing was inside the tent or making more noise, but we still aren't sure what happened. Snake? Prairie dog? There was no hole under the tent when we packed up the next day...
So to recap: Went on a lake hike to find no lake, Grandpa took a flop to get out of hiking the rest of the trip, math is hard when it comes to air mattresses, Charlie's new friend brought a snake with it, and Glacier is cold still this time of the year.
Today's Lessons:
1. Glacier was only letting people in who had a reservation.
2. Keep your hair away from the vent when blowing up the air mattress. Some of us like to learn the hard way. And get a little haircut.
3. Miles' weapon of choice for the zombie apocalypse will be a sling shot. He's a pro.
Day 4: On the Road to HAYDEN...
Woke up to find Grandpa in the car sleeping - can't say I blame him, it was REALLY cold. So I made us some coffee and we had a deer join.
(There's coffee in there, under the creamer)
Went to check out the sleeping arrangements for the boys:

Poor Miles. Ended up on the ground. He was very happy to hear it would be a hotel tonight. We packed up and headed back toward Lake McDonald for an amazing view - and to watch 2 girls jump in 😮
We found a great breakfast place in Kalispell called Syke's. Amazing food. Ate like we haven't for a week. Then we headed toward Mount Rainier area, our goal being Ellensburg for a hotel destination. We stopped in Hayden to see Hayden Lake (Idaho):
And also found Wild Horses Monument (WA):
And made it to our destination. 2 rooms and Domino's made for a nice, well-rested evening.
Today's Lessons:
1. Nick has an obsession with McDonald's.
2. The car needs to stop every 2 hours.
3. Lots of post-camping smells in the vehicle today...
4. Somehow it looks like we have more packed in the car than before??
Starting Day 5:
Today is up for debate - weather doesn't look like it will cooperate (39 degrees and rain) for any exploring of Mount Rainier, but we will still try. Destination Seattle for a fancy dinner tonight and getting ready for our cruise!
